Indy man sentenced to 50 years in prison for fatally shooting wife in 2025

A man convicted of murder for fatally shooting his wife at their house on Indianapolis’ southeast side will serve more than four decades in prison.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office reported that Cecil Mains, 46, was sentenced to 50 years in prison, 45 of which will be served in the Indiana Department of Corrections.

On December 28, 2025, Mains shot his wife, 44-year-old Jeri Mains, in their driveway in the 8100 block of Meadow Bend Lane. She died in the hospital.

All four of their children — ages 10, 14, 16, and 19 — were present when it occurred.
