The “shrinkflation” subreddit is back with another complaint about shrinking Burger King sandwiches. This time, a poster took to the platform to commiserate about the puny patty on his Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and he even threatened legal action against the chain.
“At this point, there’s room for a lawsuit,” the post says, complete with a picture of the sad-looking chicken sandwich. “I ordered based on protein count. This doesn’t meat what’s advertised. Standard dipping sauce for size comparison.” (“Meat” might be a coincidental typo for “meet” here.) “Absolutely filing an official complaint,” they concluded.
The disappointment over the lack of protein is understandable, but some say the smaller size is a blessing in disguise. Keep reading to see what the internet is saying.
Burger King customers debate “shrinking” patty sizes
Are Burger King’s sandwiches really shrinking? Many posters in the shrinkflation subreddit would say yes. “Shrinkflation” is a word coined to describe the increasingly common trend of fast food and grocery prices rising while portion sizes shrink. Customers often complain about this online, and Burger King is certainly not safe from the backlash.
One commenter on this post shared a helpful, money-saving tip: “I buy breaded chicken patties from Costco and air fry them to make the best dang chicken sandwiches,” they wrote. “Stop paying these greedy deceptive clowns.”
Another Redditor who claimed to work at Burger King said the problem isn’t shrinkflation but a lack of standardization. “The crispy chicken patty sizes are not standardized and will vary,” the wrote.
The original poster wasn’t satisfied with that explanation, however. “They can vary within a set size. But it should not be ‘some people get a breaded nugget, some people get half a chicken.’ It’s still false advertising,” they responded.
Whether it’s false advertising, shrinkflation, or just an unlucky order, some commenters jumped in to condemn fast food altogether, suggesting customers should have learned their lesson by now.
“Its garbage fast food. How many posts need to be repeated?” one comment reads.
“Well it’s Burger King. Not giving you what you thought you would get and paid for probably extended your lifespan by two days. So it’s kind of a win for you,” another joked.
Either way, it seems Burger King customers, and fast food fans in general, won’t be satisfied until sandwich sizes get a serious revamp. And we’re not putting money on that.
