Scaly Florida Jaywalker gets a warning after blocking traffic in Pasco County

DADE CITY, Fla. – Last week, drivers slammed on their brakes after an unlikely pedestrian chose a busy road for an evening stroll, and the pedestrian turned out to be an alligator.

On October 1, Dade City police responded to reports of a road blockage. When the patrol cars arrived, they discovered the reptile sitting in traffic, slowly forcing vehicles to back up.

Officers approached the unusual suspect to clear the lane. The department says the encounter went smoothly: after a brief “conversation,” they told the alligator to “gator” back to the water and free the roadway.

The alligator complied, retreating into the brush and allowing traffic to flow normally again. Officers noted that no tickets were issued, but the reptile received a stern warning that repeated infractions could result in relocation.

Before closing the incident, DCPD reminded commuters that “whether you have two legs, four legs, or way too many teeth,” everyone should use designated crossing areas and stay off the road.
