Ukraine backs proposed energy ceasefire if Moscow stops power‑grid strikes

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Monday that Kyiv backs a mutual energy cease‑fire with Moscow, offering to stop deep strikes on Russian oil refineries if Russia halts attacks on Ukraine’s power generation and electrical grid.

Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum, Zelenskyy highlighted the diplomatic momentum sparked by a public proposal from U.S. President Donald Trump to pause assaults on energy infrastructure.

“We in Ukraine embraced this idea right away,” Zelenskyy said. “Our offer is straightforward: we’ll honor an energy cease‑fire if Russia does the same. We’re ready to match their commitment, and we’ve already shown we mean business.”

He noted that while Ukrainian forces refrained from hitting Russian refineries overnight, Russian drones and missiles struck Ukrainian facilities. Overnight attacks hit a power site and a gas station, yet repair crews kept working to restore electricity lost in earlier strikes.

“If Russia wants us to cease our long‑range strikes on its oil refineries and exports, it must stop hitting our energy system, protect critical infrastructure, and end the killing of our people. That’s only fair,” he added.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine is prepared to formalize the arrangement through official channels if international partners request it. “If the Americans need it, we’ll sign these guarantees so they can be trusted,” he affirmed.

Russian authorities have not publicly accepted the terms or indicated whether they will pause operations against Ukraine’s utility network.
