Man detained after iPhone deal turns into armed kidnapping and robbery in Doral

A man was detained after police said he kidnaped and robbed a victim at gunpoint during an alleged iPhone transaction in Doral.

According to the arrest complaint, the victim first contacted Nunez-Martinez on September 28 via Facebook Marketplace to purchase an iPhone.

The transaction occurred outside the victim’s apartment building.

On October 9, police said Nunez-Martinez called the victim again and promised to sell him more iPhones.

They agreed to meet outside the same apartment building, but the victim was directed to the rear of the property.

The victim approached a white BMW automobile carrying two males. As he entered the front passenger door, a second man in the back seat sat up and brandished a weapon at him, according to the complaint.

According to police, the armed man ordered the victim into the vehicle, put the weapon at the victim’s hip, and demanded his property.

“We want everything you have; we want your money; we want your business,” the armed suspect stated in Spanish, according to the arrest report.

The thieves then drove away with the victim inside, heading for Northwest 87th Avenue and Northwest 58th Street.

The victim pled, “We can negotiate something, please don’t hurt me,” according to the report.

According to investigators, the victim attempted to flee at Northwest 87th Avenue and Northwest 58th Street, but both males forced him back into the vehicle.

The armed passenger allegedly threatened to kill him.

The victim attempted a second escape, throwing about $4,000 in cash into adjacent bushes.

According to police, the armed passenger exited the van to grab the money, as the victim attempted to free himself from a satchel strap that was caught around his neck.

The victim eventually broke the strap and fled, fleeing toward a nearby shop and hiding in bushes out of concern that the accused would pursue him.

According to investigators, the victim received a threatening text message instructing him not to report the event.

Detectives identified Nunez-Martinez using a phone number used to coordinate the transactions and vehicle registration documents.

On Sunday, October 11, Doral Police detectives discovered Nunez-Martinez during a surveillance operation.

Authorities arrested him after conducting a traffic check on State Road 826 with the assistance of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol.

He was transferred to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Nunez-Martinez is charged with kidnapping, armed robbery, grand theft, and interfering with a witness or victim.

A judge determined probable cause and issued no bond.

The story does not identify the second suspect or say whether he has been arrested.
