Chicago Gang Leader With Links To La Salle County Gets Life In Prison

A federal judge sentenced a man with criminal ties to La Salle County to life in prison.

According to the US Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois, Romeo Blackman, 30, has been sentenced to life in prison for many murders and other acts of violence. Prosecutors claim Blackman personally committed four killings and three attempted murders while commanding the Chicago street gang known as the Goonie Boss/Goonie Gang. Investigators said Blackman also sold drugs, smuggled stolen firearms, physically blocked witnesses from collaborating with law enforcement, and openly boasted about the gang’s operations on social media. Blackman, the gang’s reputed leader, allegedly directed and encouraged teenage “Goonie” members to commit murder as well.

The United States Attorney’s Office acknowledges that the La Salle County State’s Attorney’s Office provided essential assistance. Blackman was sentenced to 17 years in prison in October after being found guilty in La Salle County of armed violence, heroin dealing, and felon possession of a pistol. In addition, he was convicted of obstructing justice in La Salle County in 2015.
