Corvallis jury convicts man of DUII after crashing into dumpster near bar

A jury in Corvallis has found a local man guilty of driving under the influence and reckless driving after he crashed his vehicle into a dumpster near a restaurant last year.

According to the Benton County District Attorney’s Office, Mark Troughton, 28, left Peacock Bar and Grill in the early hours of Aug. 9, 2025, before driving into a dumpster and fleeing the scene.

Officers from the Corvallis Police Department were nearby responding to an unrelated call and reported the crash. A deputy with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office later located Troughton a few blocks away.

Authorities said Troughton admitted he had crashed into the dumpster. After determining he was impaired, the deputy arrested him.

A breath test conducted about an hour after the crash showed Troughton had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.07%, according to prosecutors.

Following a one-day trial, the jury deliberated for about 45 minutes before returning guilty verdicts on both charges. The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney John Vehrs.

Benton County District Attorney Ryan Joslin praised the quick response of local law enforcement and urged residents to plan safe transportation options before drinking.
