At least two people were hurt after a driver attempting to evade police crashed into a patrol vehicle on a freeway in  Vancouver, Washington late Wednesday night, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. on southbound Interstate 205 near State Route 14, according to a statement from the Vancouver Fire Department.

Officials said the driver had been fleeing from what police described as a “high-risk” traffic stop that began near the Alder Creek Apartments. During the pursuit, officers deployed spike strips that punctured the vehicle’s tires.

Despite the damaged tires, the driver continued traveling at high speed before colliding with a patrol car belonging to the Washington State Patrol.

Injuries reported

Emergency responders treated two people at the scene, including one person who sustained serious injuries and another with minor injuries, officials said.

Firefighters also evaluated the state trooper who was driving the patrol vehicle involved in the crash. Authorities have not confirmed whether the trooper suffered injuries.

All three individuals were transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for additional medical evaluation.

Investigation ongoing

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the people involved in the collision or disclosed why officers initially attempted to stop the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation.
