A serious collision involving a vehicle and a train near Harrisburg has left a 72-year-old man critically injured, officials confirmed.
The incident occurred in the early hours of March 14 at the intersection of Powerline Road and Highway 99, according to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
Responders arrived to find Jon McKibben, a resident of Terrebonne, unconscious but still breathing. He was rushed to RiverBend Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Preliminary findings indicate that McKibben drove onto railroad tracks and was struck by a southbound freight train operated by Union Pacific.
Investigators are examining whether alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the sheriff’s office as the investigation continues.
