On This Post

Fire officials are urging caution after a wildfire near La Pine triggered evacuations and raised concerns amid unusually dry conditions.

Riverview Fire Sparks Evacuations

According to the Mohawk Valley Fire District, the Riverview Fire broke out earlier this week, burning approximately 12 acres.

While no structures were damaged, the blaze caused panic and prompted temporary evacuations in nearby areas.

Dry Conditions Raise Alarm

Fire Chief Steven Wallace warned that current conditions are drier than normal, increasing wildfire risk across the region.

“Dry conditions we’re already seeing throughout the state are definitely alarming,” Wallace said, emphasizing that fire crews continue to prepare for worst-case scenarios each year.

Safety Reminders for Residents

Officials are urging residents to take precautions, including:

  • Following local burn regulations

  • Checking burn-day status with the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency

  • Never leaving burn piles unattended

  • Keeping water sources nearby when burning debris

Wallace stressed that even a few unattended minutes can allow a small fire to quickly spread out of control.

Cause Under Investigation

The cause of the Riverview Fire remains under investigation as crews continue monitoring the area and working with local agencies to ensure community safety.
