A man was stabbed Sunday afternoon after confronting a driver whose vehicle struck his pregnant wife and young child in a parking area at Rockaway Beach, authorities said.

According to the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 1:11 p.m. when a silver Jeep Patriot hit a pregnant woman who was carrying her 2-year-old son while walking with her husband.

After the vehicle stopped, the husband approached the driver. During the confrontation, a male passenger exited the car and stabbed him in the back before getting back into the vehicle, which then left the scene.

The car stopped a short distance away, and the female driver returned on foot and cooperated with deputies. Investigators later determined that the stabbing suspect had fled on foot and attempted to avoid detection by changing clothes.

Deputies quickly located the suspect and took him into custody without incident.

Authorities said both the pregnant woman and her child were injured but are expected to recover. The man who was stabbed was transported to a hospital and is also expected to survive.

A 25-year-old suspect was booked into the Tillamook County Jail on multiple charges, including first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, and disorderly conduct.

Sheriff Josh Brown said the situation escalated rapidly and could have resulted in more severe harm. He also praised deputies and community members for their quick response and assistance.

The case has been forwarded to the district attorney’s office for further review.
