A severely injured dog found abandoned along a highway in Oregon has died after authorities were unable to save it, officials confirmed.
According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, the dog was discovered on the morning of March 21 along the Trans-Pacific Highway in Coos County. The animal had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was left on the roadside in critical condition.
Severe Injuries and Neglect Reported
Officials said the dog was in extremely poor health when found. It was malnourished, infested with fleas and mites, and suffering from eye infections in both eyes. The extent of its injuries indicated prolonged neglect and abuse.
Despite efforts by sheriff’s office staff to provide care and stabilize the animal, its condition continued to deteriorate. Due to the severity of its injuries and overall health, the dog was ultimately euthanized.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities are now investigating the incident as a case of animal cruelty. Anyone with information about the abuse or those responsible is urged to contact the sheriff’s office.
