Two residents from the La Pine area are facing serious drug charges after a traffic stop in Madras led to the discovery of a large quantity of fentanyl, authorities said.
Arrests Following Drug Investigation
According to the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement (CODE), Danielle Renee Hood, 38, and Zachary Steven Simmons, 30, were arrested and charged in Jefferson County.
They face charges including:
- Possession of fentanyl
- Delivery of fentanyl
Traffic Stop Leads to Major Drug Bust
Authorities said the suspects were traveling toward the Portland area to obtain fentanyl and transport it back to Deschutes County.
During a stop near NW Cherry Lane and Highway 26, a K9 unit alerted deputies to possible narcotics, prompting further investigation and a search warrant.
Drugs and Evidence Seized
Investigators reported finding:
- ⚠️ Over 50 pounds of fentanyl
- 💊 A small amount of methamphetamine
- 📦 Packaging materials linked to drug distribution
Court Proceedings
Both suspects are scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Wednesday.
