Roseburg Celebrates Arbor Month 2026 with Tree Planting Events and Photo Contest

On This Post

Roseburg is gearing up for a month-long celebration of trees, sustainability, and community engagement as Parks and Recreation officials launch a series of events for Arbor Month this April.

Mayor to Proclaim Arbor Month

Mayor Larry Rich is expected to officially declare April as “Arbor Month” on April 13. Throughout the month, the Tree City USA flag will be displayed outside City Hall, leading up to Arbor Day on April 24.

This year also marks a milestone for Roseburg, celebrating 10 consecutive years as a “Tree City”, a designation awarded by the Arbor Day Foundation since 2016.

Month-Long Activities and Community Engagement

According to Parks & Recreation Program Manager Val Ligon, Arbor Month is an opportunity to educate residents and encourage participation in tree-related activities.

Throughout April:

  • Educational tips on tree selection, planting, watering, and pruning will be shared twice weekly on social media.
  • Residents can learn how to care for trees and improve their local environment.

2026 Arbor Day Photo Contest

The city is also hosting a community photo contest:

  • Entries are open until April 17 (5 p.m.)
  • Winners will be announced on Arbor Day via official city social media pages

Recreation Coordinator Tracy David highlighted local appreciation for nature, noting that Riverfront Park is a favorite spot due to its mature trees and rich wildlife.

Family Activities and Educational Resources

From April 15 to April 30, families can pick up an Arbor-themed activity booklet at the Roseburg Public Library or download it online. The booklet includes:

  • Word puzzles
  • Sudoku
  • Crosswords
  • Connect-the-dots

Volunteer Tree Planting Event

A major highlight of the month is a community tree-planting event:

  •  Date: April 24 (Arbor Day)
  •  Location: Stewart Park Natural Area
  •  Time: 9 a.m.

Volunteers will help plant 20 native trees along Newton Creek, including:

  • Cottonless poplar
  • Oregon white oak

Members of the Umpqua Valley Audubon Society will also demonstrate how to install birdhouses to support local wildlife.

A Month to Grow Community and Nature

With educational programs, hands-on activities, and community involvement, Roseburg’s Arbor Month aims to strengthen environmental awareness while celebrating a decade of tree stewardship.
