Police Standoff Triggers I-5 Closure in Vancouver

Authorities in Vancouver , Washington, temporarily shut down portions of Interstate 5 on Saturday afternoon following a tense standoff involving an armed suspect.

The incident began around 2:30 p.m. at an apartment complex on East 13th Street. According to police, a resident reported that another individual in the building had pointed a firearm at them, prompting an immediate emergency response.

SWAT Team Deployed Near Apartment Complex

The Vancouver Police Department quickly escalated the situation by deploying a SWAT team to the scene. Due to the proximity of the apartment complex—located just 600 feet from I-5—officials closed southbound lanes of the highway as a safety precaution.

The closure caused temporary traffic disruptions while law enforcement worked to safely resolve the situation.

Suspect Arrested After Hours-Long Standoff

After negotiations and tactical operations, officers successfully took the suspect into custody without further incident. The man was identified as 58-year-old Terry Meyers.

Police confirmed that multiple firearms were recovered from inside the apartment following the arrest.

Charges Filed and Investigation Ongoing

Meyers was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of assault. Authorities have not released additional details about the motive behind the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to review the circumstances leading up to the standoff.
