Discover Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes Into Deputy on Anti-DUII Patrol

A woman suspected of driving under the influence crashed into a deputy’s patrol vehicle Saturday night while the deputy was working a targeted anti-DUII patrol, according to the  Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office .

The crash occurred around 11:15 p.m. near Northeast 162nd Avenue and Northeast Fremont Street in Portland.

Authorities said the deputy was not injured in the collision.

Patrol Honored Fallen Deputies

The patrol was conducted in honor of Multnomah County reserve Sgt. Scott Collins and reserve deputy Mark Whitehead, who were killed in a DUII-related crash on Feb. 26, 1993, the sheriff’s office said.

Driver Arrested

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Luz Chavez-Castillo, was booked into jail on suspicion of:

  • Driving under the influence

  • Reckless endangerment

  • Reckless driving

The case remains under investigation.
