A police pursuit in Springfield ended Thursday with the arrest of a man accused in a domestic violence incident, authorities said.
According to the Springfield Police Department, officers were first called to a home on Lochaven Avenue on March 5 regarding a disorderly conduct report involving 60-year-old Kevin Wayne Downs.
Police said officers established probable cause to arrest Downs for fourth-degree assault, but he had already left the area before they arrived.
Later, an officer spotted Downs driving on Gateway Street and attempted to pull him over, leading to a vehicle pursuit. During the chase, Downs drove through several parking lots and attempted to drive over a berm on International Way, where his vehicle became stuck against a retaining wall.
Authorities said Downs then tried to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by a police K-9 named Poker.
Downs was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being booked into the Lane County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including DUII, reckless driving and attempting to elude police.
