Prosecutors have dismissed criminal charges against a man in Florence who lost his arm during a homemade grenade incident last year.
According to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office, charges against David Ray Allen for unlawful possession and manufacturing of a destructive device were dropped after prosecutors determined they could not prove a key element of the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
The incident occurred in June at an apartment complex near 43rd and Oak streets. Authorities previously said Allen had attempted to throw a homemade grenade at suspected car prowlers when the device exploded, causing him to lose his arm.
Allen was charged about two months after the explosion. However, prosecutors filed a motion last month asking the court to dismiss the indictment, stating that the available evidence was insufficient to support the charges.
With the dismissal of the case, legal proceedings related to the incident have officially come to an end.
