Roseburg man charged with murder after infant’s body recovered from Umpqua River

A man from Roseburg has been arrested after authorities say he confessed to killing his infant son and disposing of the child’s body in a nearby river.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Jared Scott Jeremy Stoller initially reported his 11-month-old son, Jaxson Stoller, missing from a hotel room in Sutherlin on March 15.

Father later confessed to killing child

Investigators said Stoller later told detectives that the child had died days earlier in Roseburg. He allegedly admitted to placing the body in the South Umpqua River.

Authorities from the Douglas County Major Crimes Team, along with search and rescue crews and other law enforcement agencies, launched a search of the river.

Body located during search

Officials said the child’s body was discovered in the water near Old Melrose Road.

An autopsy is scheduled in the coming days to determine the exact cause of death.

Suspect facing serious charges

Stoller has been booked into the Douglas County Jail and is facing charges of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse, according to authorities.

The investigation remains active, with several agencies assisting the sheriff’s office.
