A 36-year-old man has been taken into custody following an attempted robbery at a convenience store in Sutherlin, according to local authorities.
The Sutherlin Police Department reported that officers responded to a late-night robbery call on March 16 at the Kwik Pik Market. The suspect, identified as Elijah H. Gomez, allegedly threatened to rob the store while reaching inside his sweatshirt, prompting concern from employees.
Suspect returned before arrest
Police said Gomez briefly left the store after the initial incident but returned shortly afterward. No weapon was displayed during the encounter, officials confirmed.
Officers later located Gomez nearby and attempted to detain him. Authorities said he resisted arrest and tried to flee before being subdued and taken into custody.
Charges and custody status
Gomez now faces multiple charges, including robbery and resisting arrest. He is currently being held at the Douglas County Jail, where records show he remained in custody as of March 17.
