A man from Lane County who evaded authorities for two years after missing his sentencing hearing has now been ordered to serve a decade behind bars.
Jack Crist, 48, of Florence, was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison after previously pleading guilty in 2023 to charges of rape and attempted rape.
Court records show Crist failed to appear for his scheduled sentencing in 2024, prompting a multi-state search. Investigators tracked him across several locations, including Missouri and Arizona, before finally apprehending him in Chico last month.
Following his arrest, Crist was returned to Oregon, where a judge imposed the prison sentence.
Authorities said the case highlights the persistence of law enforcement in locating fugitives who attempt to avoid justice.
