A woman in Coos Bay was arrested after allegedly assaulting a sheriff’s deputy during a trespassing investigation, authorities said.

Incident on Wygant Road

According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a woman trespassing with a campfire on Wygant Road, just south of the city, around 8:10 p.m. on March 27.

At the scene, deputies identified the suspect as Kinsey R. Smith, 28.

Confrontation Turns Violent

Officials said Smith refused repeated orders to leave the property. When a deputy attempted to arrest her for trespassing, the situation escalated into a violent struggle.

During the altercation, the deputy was reportedly:

  • Struck multiple times in the face
  • Kneed in the groin
  • Scratched and head-butted
  • Bitten several times

Authorities said the confrontation lasted about five minutes before a second deputy arrived and helped bring Smith into custody.

Charges Filed

Smith was booked into the Coos County Jail and remains in custody.

She faces multiple charges, including:

  • Criminal trespassing
  • Resisting arrest
  • Assault on a public safety officer
