Clark County, WA — Authorities are searching for a man considered dangerous after he escaped from custody while being held at a state hospital earlier this week.
Suspect Escapes from Hospital Facility
Officials say Joshua Dylan Rice, 35, escaped from Western State Hospital in Lakewood, located in Pierce County, where he was being held under custody. Authorities reported that Rice “broke out” of the facility on Tuesday.
Rice is currently facing multiple charges in Clark County, including assault, robbery, and vehicle theft.
Described as Dangerous by Officials
Law enforcement has issued a warning to the public, stating that Rice should be considered dangerous. Mugshots released by officials describe him as approximately 6 feet tall and 185 pounds.
Authorities believe he may have connections in the Salmon Creek area and possibly North Bend, Oregon, raising concerns that he could attempt to flee or seek assistance from associates.
Conflicting Records Raise Questions
While officials identified Rice as 35 years old, Oregon court records show a man with the same name and matching details but a birthdate suggesting he is in his mid-40s. The records also indicate a prior criminal history, including:
- Criminal mischief in Multnomah County
- Unauthorized use of a vehicle in Coos County
- Previous fugitive-related charges
Public Urged to Stay Alert
Authorities are urging anyone with information about Rice’s whereabouts to contact 911 immediately. Residents are advised not to approach him and to report any suspicious activity.
Search Ongoing
Law enforcement agencies continue to search for Rice as the investigation unfolds. Officials emphasize the importance of community awareness while efforts to locate and apprehend the suspect remain active.
