Eugene, OR — A man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to grab a young woman in a disturbing daytime incident near a busy Eugene roadway, police said.
Incident Reported Near Bailey Hill Road
According to the Eugene Police Department, officers responded to reports that Kerry Michael Diamond, 36, approached a 19-year-old woman around 11:33 a.m. on March 31 near the intersection of Bailey Hill Road and West 11th Avenue.
The victim told police that the suspect began speaking to her and made inappropriate comments about her body before attempting to physically grab her.
Bystanders Step In to Help
The woman tried to signal passing drivers for assistance, but several vehicles reportedly continued without stopping. Diamond allegedly followed her as she attempted to get away.
A pedestrian attempted to intervene but was unsuccessful. Shortly after, a woman driving in the area noticed the situation, turned back, and stepped in to help. At that point, the suspect walked away from the scene.
The driver then followed the man at a distance and alerted officers upon spotting them nearby.
Suspect Located and Arrested
Police located Diamond at a tent in the 2900 block of West 11th Avenue, where he was taken into custody without further incident. He was booked into the Lane County Jail.
Charges and Criminal History
Diamond faces multiple charges, including:
- Attempted third-degree sexual abuse
- Attempted harassment
- Second-degree disorderly conduct
- Second-degree criminal trespass
Authorities confirmed that Diamond is a registered sex offender and has previously been the subject of calls for service involving similar behavior.
