An hours-long standoff in Portland ended late Thursday night after officers with the Portland Police Bureau arrested a man who had barricaded himself inside an apartment on Southeast Division Street.
Standoff Began After Firefighters Encounter Armed Resident
Authorities say the incident started around 2 p.m. in the 4300 block of Southeast Division Street when firefighters responded to reports of a possible fire. Upon arrival, they encountered a man inside the apartment who allegedly brandished an edged weapon.
Fire crews withdrew and called police for assistance. Officers quickly secured the area and deployed a crisis negotiation team.
Residents Evacuated as Police Escalate Response
During the standoff, multiple residents were evacuated from the building as officers worked to resolve the situation safely. Authorities used a range of tactics, including:
