PORTLAND, Ore. — Authorities have identified the man arrested following a prolonged eight-hour standoff in Southeast Portland as Elijah Raheim Dickinson, 28.
Incident Began With Fire Report
According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers responded to an apartment in the 4300 block of Southeast Division Street after firefighters were called to investigate reports of smoke.
When first responders arrived, Dickinson allegedly threatened firefighters with an edged weapon, forcing them to withdraw and request police assistance.
Suspect Refused to Surrender
Police described Dickinson as “a person in crisis” who barricaded himself inside the apartment and refused to come out. This triggered a lengthy standoff that lasted several hours as crisis negotiators attempted to de-escalate the situation.
