A man was shot early Tuesday morning in Medford after allegedly attempting to break into a neighbor’s apartment with an axe, police said.
Disturbance Escalates Into Violent Incident
According to the Medford Police Department, officers were dispatched around 4:55 a.m. to the 600 block of South Oakdale Avenue following reports of a person in mental distress.
Callers reported that a man was yelling and behaving erratically inside a nearby apartment.
Attempted Break-In Leads to Gunfire
While officers were en route, dispatchers received updated information that the individual was trying to force entry into a neighboring apartment using an axe.
In response, the resident inside the targeted apartment fired a gun, striking the suspect.
Suspect Identified, Hospitalized
Police identified the man as Julian Moon Haight, 22. He sustained a gunshot wound to an extremity.
Officers provided immediate medical assistance before he was transported to a local hospital, where he remains under treatment.
No Other Injuries Reported
Authorities confirmed that no other individuals were injured during the incident.
