A grocery store employee was injured in a stabbing incident inside a Safeway location in Eugene, Oregon, prompting a swift police response that led to the suspect’s arrest nearby.

Stabbing Reported Inside Safeway Store

According to the Eugene Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Safeway store on East 18th Avenue at approximately 3:52 p.m. on April 23 following reports of a violent assault.

Authorities said the victim, a man in his 40s, told officers he was stabbed by an unknown individual while inside the store.

Victim Hospitalized With Non-Life-Threatening Injuries

Emergency responders transported the injured employee to a nearby hospital. Officials confirmed that his injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Police have not released additional details about what may have led to the attack.

Suspect Located and Arrested Nearby

Witnesses who called 911 provided a description of the suspect and his direction of travel, allowing officers to quickly search the surrounding area.

Police soon located and arrested Jason Troy Griner, 47, near East 17th Avenue and Mill Street.

He was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Lane County Jail.

Charges Filed

Griner is facing a charge of first-degree assault, a serious felony offense. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether additional charges may follow.
