A 40-year-old woman from Eugene died after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross a roadway in Douglas County, according to authorities.

Incident details

The victim, identified as Vivian Kutz, was crossing from Grant Smith Road toward Oregon 99 when the crash occurred. The incident happened just before 11 p.m. at the intersection of Oregon 42 and Oregon 99, police said.

Driver remained at scene

Authorities reported that 38-year-old Leo Thomas Durden III of Roseburg was driving westbound on Oregon 42 when his Ford Focus struck Kutz. Officials noted that she was crossing the road without a walk signal at the time of the collision.

Kutz was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was not injured and remained at the location following the crash.

Investigation ongoing

Oregon State Police responded to the scene and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
