Eugene Man With Cerebral Palsy Files $1.5M Lawsuit Against 7-Eleven Over Alleged Assault

On This Post

An Eugene man living with cerebral palsy has filed a $1.5 million lawsuit against a 7-Eleven store owner, alleging he was assaulted by employees during a dispute last year.

The plaintiff, Eric Matute, filed the lawsuit on Monday against United Unlimited Dreams Inc., which operates a 7-Eleven location on East 13th Avenue in Eugene.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred in July 2025 when Matute attempted to make a purchase at the store. A disagreement reportedly began after store clerks refused to accept his torn cash, escalating into a heated argument.

Matute claims the confrontation turned physical when two employees allegedly chased him outside the store and assaulted him. A bystander intervened during the incident, and Matute was later transported to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities confirmed that one of the store clerks was cited for assault following the incident. However, Matute was also cited for disorderly conduct, according to police reports.

The lawsuit seeks damages for the alleged assault, raising concerns about customer safety and employee conduct at retail establishments.
