Two people were apprehended in Beaufort County after a collaborative law enforcement operation including the US Postal Inspection Service, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities alleged that the suspects, a man and a woman, acquired illicit firearms and firearm parts through the US mail. Law enforcement conducted the arrests outside a post office on Robert Smalls Parkway without incident.
According to postal inspectors, the case demonstrates ongoing efforts to combat the unlawful transfer of weapons via the mail system. Officials highlighted that anyone attempting to use postal services to facilitate illicit conduct will be investigated and penalized.
At this time, authorities have not disclosed any other information about the individuals or potential charges. The investigation is underway.
