Precinct 4 Deputies Arrest Alleged Burglars Mid-Break-In

Deputies from Harris County Precinct 4 said they arrived just in time on Monday morning to stop an active home burglary and take two people into custody. Responding to a report of a break-in, deputies discovered a front door smashed open and a house in the process of being looted.

Deputy Balanta was among the first on the scene and, along with other patrol units, detained two people at the home after confirming the forced entrance, according to the constable’s office. The agency credited a “quick response” and “strong teamwork” with stopping the alleged crime before the suspects could flee.

Both people were arrested on burglary and interference with public duties charges, according to Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4, who posted on social media as detectives probed the scene.

In Texas, burglary of a habitation is a felony that includes unlawful entry into a residence with the intent to conduct theft or another crime. A conviction might result in multi-year jail sentences, depending on the circumstances and criminal history.

Interference with public duties is a separate allegation that applies when someone is accused of interrupting, impeding, or otherwise obstructing a peace officer or other public servant while they are performing their duties.
