A Florida woman just showed that a brief stop for gas may result in a life-changing payday. Brenda Larry of Monticello recently went to the Florida Lottery Headquarters in Tallahassee to claim a $1 million prize from the 500X THE CASH scratch-off game.
Larry chose to accept her prize as a single, lump-sum payment of $640,000. The winning ticket was purchased at the Pit Stop, situated at 1546 N. Jefferson Street in Monticello.
While many people dream of hitting it big by serendipity, Larry sees her victory as more deliberate.
“You must play to win, and I do not rely on luck. “I move with purpose, and I am truly blessed,” she stated as she accepted her medal.
Larry played the $50 game, which has the state’s highest top prize of $25 million. According to Florida Lottery officials, the game provides more than $1.66 billion in total cash prizes and a 1-in-4.23 overall chance of winning.
Scratch-offs, like the one Larry played, are the Florida Lottery’s largest source of revenue, accounting for nearly 74% of all ticket sales during the fiscal year 2024-2025.
Beyond creating almost 2,400 millionaires since their beginning, these games have had a greater influence on the community, raising more than $20.98 billion for the state’s Educational Enhancement Trust Fund, which supports Florida children.
