A 5-year-old boy was discovered dead in Monroe County following a daylong search, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Ajani Jermaine Samuels went missing at 9 a.m. on Sunday from his residence in Chestnuthill Township. According to a state police news release, he was discovered deceased in a body of water at 4:30 p.m. following an extended search. State police did not reveal the location.

According to state authorities, the boy was nonverbal and had autism and epilepsy. He was discovered with the assistance of K-9s, according to a Facebook post by Pennsylvania Mountain Rescue. According to the post, a wilderness rescue team was dispatched to Saylorsburg to search for the boy.

According to the Facebook post, the search involved local fire companies, St. Luke’s EMS, rescue divers, aviation units, and the Monroe County Office of Emergency Management.

“Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and community members who have been impacted by today’s events. “This is never the outcome that anyone wants,” Pennsylvania Mountain Rescue wrote on Facebook.

“Troop N would like to thank all emergency responders who showed up to the search area, for their services and hard work,” the state police statement states.
