The problem son of a couple in The Villages was arrested for possessing methamphetamine after being discovered riding an unlicenced moped.
A deputy saw 40-year-old Jason Robert Eicher of the Village of Rio Ponderosa riding a black 2026 moped through the parking lot of BJ’s Wholesale Club, located at 135858 NE 86th Path, Lady Lake, around 4 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
A computer check of the temporary tag attached to the moped revealed that it had been cancelled. It was replaced with another plate, which would expire on December 31, 2025. Seeing this, the deputy conducted a traffic stop and spoke with Eicher, according to the report.
Eicher immediately declared that he did not believe he needed a license to operate the scooter. According to the article, he only recently purchased it and rarely drives it now.
A subsequent check of his driving history revealed that his Ohio driver’s license was actively suspended. Eicher stated that he had been aware of his license’s suspension due to fines for some time. He was then arrested, according to the article.
During a search of his person, he remarked, “I got a little bit of something in my bag.” He emphasized that it was “a little bit of meth” before the deputy searched a leather bag attached to the motorcycle. The bag contained a crumpled piece of aluminum foil containing methamphetamine and a little plastic baggie containing fentanyl. The report stated that a bag under the seat contained three packages of buprenorphine and naloxone sublingual film strips.
Eicher was detained for possessing methamphetamine, fentanyl, buprenorphine sublingual film, and drug paraphernalia, as well as driving with a suspended license with knowledge. He was placed into the Sumter County Detention Center and bond was set at $5,500.
The Ohio native was jailed earlier this year for reportedly headbutting a man at a property in The Villages.
