A Phoenix man is facing charges after allegedly firing a laser pointer at a police helicopter this week.
Lauro Pena Vazquez was arrested overnight after allegedly aiming a green laser at a Phoenix Air Unit that was flying around 29th Street and Virginia Avenue at 11 p.m. Thursday.
Officers in the helicopter watched the man who aimed the laser enter a nearby residence, and police officers responded. When authorities contacted the home’s owners, they learned that the couple’s adult son was also present.
Phoenix police discovered the son, subsequently identified as Vazquez, and apprehended him. After receiving a search warrant, officers discovered a green laser in Vasquez’s bedroom.
Vazquez was arrested on a felony charge of pointing a laser at an occupied airplane.
