The San Diego Police Department reported Saturday that a man was apprehended in Arizona in connection with a deadly assault that occurred in San Diego in October 2025.

The alleged assault occurred on Midway Drive on October 26 and left 68-year-old Brian Salatino in a coma for 100 days before dying in the hospital on February 3.

Witnesses said they contacted 911 after seeing the attack. San Diego Police and Fire-Rescue responded and attempted to save Salatino’s life before transferring him to the hospital, where he died while still in a coma.

The investigation was initially handled by Western Division Investigations Bureau investigators, who discovered a person of interest.

According to SDPD, on May 9, the Mohave County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona arrested 60-year-old Noel Frischknecht on an outstanding warrant out of San Diego County for his alleged involvement in Salatino’s death.

Frischknecht is being held in a Mohave County jail until he is transferred to San Diego.
