Wanted North Carolina murder suspect apprehended in Alabama

A woman accused of a deadly shooting in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood has been apprehended in Alabama and extradited back to North Carolina, according to police.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, Adaysia Coles, 26, was arrested in Birmingham, Alabama, less than 24 hours after the May 21 shooting. She has been extradited to Charlotte and charged with murder.

The shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. on North Davidson Street, near East 35th Street in the NoDa neighborhood.

Officers responding to the location discovered a person with a gunshot wound. The victim was transferred to a local hospital and eventually died.

Taylor Sylver, 38, was identified as the victim by police.

Coles was identified as a suspect by investigators and tracked down across state lines later that day. She was taken into the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office after being returned to Charlotte.

Authorities have not revealed what prompted the shooting.
