A 20-year-old murder suspect was apprehended Monday (May 25) by New Orleans police.

The NOPD stated Tuesday that Daniel Victor Romero, 20, was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of an 18-year-old woman in Hollygrove on Sunday.

Police say the victim was fatally shot Sunday around 3:35 p.m. in the 9000 block of Peach Street. The NOPD has not disclosed Romero’s relationship with the victim or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The victim was identified as Ramaya Silvan, 18, by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office. Friends who identified her on social media said she graduated from Warren Easton High School in 2026.

Police said Romero was recognized as the murderer and was apprehended without incident at 4 p.m. Monday in New Orleans East.

Anyone with information on the case is requested to call NOPD homicide investigators at 504 658-5300.
