A convicted felon has been charged following a confrontation with police at the Chicago Ridge Mall on Friday, according to police.

Mark A. Jackson, 38, of Alsip, was charged with one felony crime of aggravated unauthorized use of a firearm by a felon, two felony charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, five misdemeanor counts of resisting and obstructing a police officer, and one misdemeanor count of property damage.

Around 2:22 p.m., cops noticed Jackson wandering around the Chicago Ridge Mall with a bulge on his waistband. Two officers approached him inside a store and informed him that he could not carry a concealed firearm in the mall.

One officer attempted to take the handgun from Jackson. A fight occurred over the gun, which the officers were able to safely recover from Jackson.

Jackson was arrested and gave police a false name. Police claim he also had a forged Illinois driver’s license.

Jackson is a convicted criminal with one active arrest warrant for domestic assault and two open warrants for forgery.
