An Arizona man who fatally stabbed a victim and then burnt the body has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, police announced Monday.

Thurman Yazzie pleaded guilty to the March 2023 stabbing on the Navajo Nation. According to court records, the victim was repeatedly stabbed in the back before being transported to the woods and set on fire.

Yazzie will serve an additional five years of supervised release after being sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The FBI Phoenix Division’s Gallup Office collaborated with the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations and the McKinley County Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico to carry out the investigation.
