Two New Jersey cities were placed under a boil water advisory Wednesday following repairs to a water main in Clifton.
Approximately 5,000 Clifton residents and 200 in Passaic were directed to boil water for all uses until further notice, starting Wednesday morning, the Passaic Valley Water Commission announced.
The advisory is expected to remain in effect until water quality testing is completed and it is confirmed to be safe for drinking.
Residents are advised to use bottled water or boil water before using it for:
- drinking
- cooking
- making ice
- brushing teeth
- washing dishes
- preparing infant formula
- washing fruits and vegetables
Officials note that while no contamination has been detected, pressure fluctuations in the water system during repairs can raise the risk of contamination.
