A man reported missing Wednesday morning was later discovered deceased in a swimming pool at Eastover Park, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies said they went to a residence in Eastover at 8:30 a.m. on June 3 to take a missing persons report. The caller informed officials that her adult son was last seen at the home at 4 p.m. on June 2.

A few hours later, shortly after noon, deputies were dispatched to Eastover Park at 1031 Main St., where an unresponsive man was located in the park’s pool.

According to the sheriff’s department, park employees found the man while opening the facility.

The body was declared dead on the scene and identified as the same individual who had been reported missing earlier that morning.

According to investigators, no foul play is suspected in the death.

The inquiry into the incident is ongoing.

The sheriff’s department also cautioned citizens about water safety, pointing out that drowning events can happen quickly. Officials advised people to wear life jackets when necessary, avoid swimming alone, and make sure someone knows where they are when they enter the water.
