A Chicago man was apprehended in Cook County nearly a month after allegedly being involved in a police chase with a stolen Jeep in Rochelle.

Jesus Castillo, 34, is facing charges in Ogle County for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, as well as unrelated allegations in Cook County.

On May 9, Ogle County officers attempted to stop a white Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been reported stolen near the intersection of N Illinois Route 251 and E Eddy Road.

Deputies said the automobile sped south on Route 251, over 100 mph. They pursued the Jeep onto E. Illinois Route 64, where it began driving in the opposite direction of the northbound lanes on I-39.

The Jeep finally crossed the center median and exited westbound on E Illinois Route 38, passing through a construction zone. The pursuit went inside Rochelle’s municipal limits before being called off.

Deputies later discovered the Jeep unoccupied near 8th Street and 9th Avenue in Rochelle.

Investigators recognized Castillo as the driver of the stolen Jeep.

According to the sheriff’s office, Castillo was driving with a suspended license and a Cook County warrant for a conditional release violation when the chase began.

He is now detained at the Cook County Jail and will be moved to the Ogle County Jail at a later date.
