Two people were seriously injured Saturday after a car became lodged underneath a van during a rear-end incident in Lockport.
According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, authorities got numerous reports reporting a crash at the intersection of South Transit and Rapids Road.
Police concluded that a northbound 2012 Buick Regal collided with the rear of a 2016 Chevrolet Express van. The Buick experienced serious front-end damage and became stuck underneath the van’s tail.
The driver and front-seat passenger in the Buick were locked inside, but the rear-seat passengers were able to evacuate on their own.
Multiple fire departments utilized the Jaws of Life to extract the driver and front-seat passenger from the Buick. They were sent to the ECMC with significant injuries.
The rear-seat occupants were sent to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the Chevrolet Express van were denied medical care on the spot.
The identities of those implicated have been concealed, awaiting further investigation by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
