A Ramsey County man will spend the rest of the decade and then some in prison for assaults that left his 3-month-old twin sons with 60 fractures.

Dylan Raymond Strain, 20, was sentenced to nearly 16 years (189 months) in jail on Monday, with consecutive terms for the injuries he caused rather than a lesser punishment.

According to the records filed last year, Child Protective Services contacted St. Paul police after doctors at Children’s Hospital discovered that one youngster had 46 fractures, as well as extensive bruising and hemorrhage, following seizures. His twin was found to have 14 fractures and other cuts and bruises.

According to court documents, the twins were born prematurely and lived with their parents and other family members, including their grandmother, who told police, “My grandbabies are in the hospital because some man doesn’t know how to control himself.”

The grandmother later stated that she had heard Strain yell at the children several times and saw enough to know he “can’t handle this.”

Strain was convicted of first-degree assault and will be transported to the St. Cloud Correctional Facility to fulfill his sentence. He’s still in the Ramsey County Jail.
