A man has been sentenced to prison for the 2025 shooting death.

Marvin Byrd, 55, was sentenced to 17 years in prison by the Missouri Department of Corrections for voluntary manslaughter and armed criminal action in the 2025 shooting death of Dwayne Thomas, 60, in St. Louis’ Walnut Park West area.

When the shooting occurred, Byrd and Thomas were roommates on Henner Avenue. The two got into a fight while shopping for supplies before heading to a college football party, according to police. Byrd then shot Thomas on the street.

According to police, following the incident, Byrd placed the gun down and waited for officers to come. A doorbell video captured the fatal shooting.
