3 people apprehended in Jefferson County retail theft investigation

Lyndon police officers apprehended three people on Monday for allegedly stealing from several businesses.

In a news release, police said 27-year-old Caloria Waters, 34-year-old Elijah Waters, and 32-year-old Kaylyn Cashaw were detained as retail theft remains a problem in Jefferson County.

According to court documents, cops responded to a Walgreens after receiving a report of three people stealing from the business. Police claimed they discovered the three suspects seated in a car outside the business.

Police reviewed security footage, which showed the three suspects placing stuff in a basket and leaving without paying. An employee stated that the products totaled $751.98.

Police discovered the Walgreens products inside the vehicle. Officers discovered stolen items from CVS and Dollar General stores in Jeffersontown.

Police said the suspects stole from Walgreens after allegedly stealing from CVS and Dollar General. CVS and Dollar General’s products totaled more than $350.

According to court filings, Caloria Waters reportedly took thousands of dollars in items from Victoria’s Secret at Mall St. Matthews on three separate occasions.

Police say she stole $658.75 in items on April 22, $2,295 on June 14, and $1,342.55 on June 21.

According to court documents, Caloria Waters skipped all points of sale and failed to pay each time. Police stated that all incidents were captured on security video.

Caloria Waters was already due to be sentenced on August 10 after pleading guilty to various offenses, including receiving a stolen firearm and possessing a handgun as a convicted felon, according to court documents.

She had previously been released after a $15,000 bond was partially secured. After being detained on theft charges on Monday, she was freed from detention after posting another partially secured bond equal to the $10,000 bond issued.

Caloria Waters was charged with:

  • TBUT or DISP shoplifting $500<$1,000
  • TBUT or DISP shoplifting
  • Engaging in organized crime
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • No registration plates
  • No registration receipt
  • Obscuring the identity of a machine $10,000 or more
  • None/improper use of a temporary tag when required
  • Prescription controlled substance not in proper container, first offense

Elijah Waters was charged with:

  • TBUT or DISP shoplifting $500<$1,000
  • TBUT or DISP shoplifting
  • Engaging in organized crime

Kaylyn Cashaw was charged with:

  • TBUT or DISP shoplifting $500<$1,000
  • TBUT or DISP shoplifting
  • Engaging in organized crime

All three accused were arraigned in court on Tuesday, and preliminary hearings are planned on July 22.
