A former Rikers Island corrections officer has been sentenced for falsely claiming he was wounded on duty and collecting benefits for years.

According to the indictment, Todd Faustin, 43, aggressively sought events in which he could use force to steal money from the workers’ compensation system.

“Todd Faustin lined his own pockets by exploiting one of the most sensitive interactions in our justice system: the use of physical force against prisoners,” stated U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton.

Faustin was sentenced to 15 months in jail, followed by one year of supervised release.

Faustin was also ordered to pay restitution and forfeiture totaling $370,336.79.
