Indianapolis resident Stephanie Schofield, 38, was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday for the death of Jerry Moore II in 2023.

On October 9, 2023, New Palestine Police Department officers conducted a welfare check in the 4500 block of South 500 West. Officers said Schofield, who requested the welfare check, fled the scene.

Officers arrived on the scene and discovered Moore unresponsive, performing life-saving procedures before transporting him to the hospital. He was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital. An autopsy found that Moore died due to a heroin overdose.

According to a Facebook post by the New Palestine Police Department, investigators reviewed social media and cell phone records to discover whether Schofield provided Moore the drugs that caused his death.

Schofield received an arrest warrant and was detained on September 27, 2024.

On Wednesday, a Hancock County jury found Schofield guilty of Dealing a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death, a level one felony.
